Obesity has become a major public health issue. Healthy eating and daily physical activity play a significant role in preventing chronic diseases, such as heart diseases, cancer, and stroke. These are the three leading causes of death among adults aged under 18. The chronic diseases risk factors are related to obesity. Obesity is defined as a medical condition in which excess body fat has accrued to an extent that may be a negative effect on health. Obesity in childhood cannot be classified under adult criteria, since childhood is characterized by change in body mass index (BMI) dependent upon age and sex. During the last 3 decades, the prevalence of obesity has tripled among persons aged 6 – 19 years. The research is important because obesity is the fastest-growing health problem in modern childhood and adolescence and has created a massive display of recent literature. This research is mainly focused on parents with children under 18 that need to be concerned about their child/children lives. The outcomes will help parents manage their children’s health and manipulate and scare parents so that parents can take their children health seriously. In the proposed study, I seek to assess through survey the degree in which healthy eating at the age of 6-19 help maintain a healthy weight and prevent obesity.
Since the No Child Left Behind Act was created, many schools are reducing physical activity. Exercise reduces short and long time effects to the body. Physical activities play an important role in students’ development and growth. Recent studies have proved that physical activity has improved student’s performance in school and outside of class. There are many reasons why it important to have physical activities in schools. Physical activity will help one have good health for now and in the future. Also it’s a preventive measure against disease. Exercise helps develop muscle size, strength and endurance. Physical activities not only helps one physically but mentally also. It stimulates academic learning and shapes self-esteem. If physical activities is mandatory in schools then it will help to develop ones cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship skills. If this is practiced early in life then it will encourage one to live an active life. In the proposed study, I seek to assess through survey the degree in which physical activities in all school from elementary to college to help maintain a healthy weight and prevent obesity.
